The Fall is Crazy

Wow,

Sorry it has been so long since I last posted. It has been a crazy couple of weeks. Here is a brief recap:

1. Classes and reading, obviously
2. A great concert
3. Regent Law's 25th Anniversary Spectacular
4. Regent Law First Annual Golf Invite and the beginning of Flag Football season.
5. More classes and more reading
6. 25th Anniversary CLE's, most notably Professor Kohm's great talk on the Intersection between Immigration and Family Law
7. And finally, occasional sleep.

Things have been amazing. The 25th Anniversary Celebration was unprecedented and it was great to see so many alums come back and enjoy themselves on campus. Regent already has a rich history at its silver anniversary. Much gratitude and congratulations goes to the entire faculty and staff and all the students who made this past weekend so memorable. As for me, I can't wait to come back to Regent down the road and meet with the current students.

In family law, we had a guest speaker recently. It was a current student's father, a practicing family law attorney, who graduated from Regent. It was really rewarding and encouraging to hear from an alum who learned all the things we are currently learning now and put them to good use.

We're not a month into the semester and the information is really piling up. These are usually the times when a really great outline saves you, and I am very glad that I have been pacing myself well in that department. In undergrad you think just your notes will get you by...not in law school. The level of detail goes so much deeper that you need to be able to note your notes....if that makes sense. It's a skill that takes time to develop and thankfully for us, the Student Activities department hosts workshops to teach us these vital skills.

One piece of current events that I have mentioned a few times and is now going forward once again is the Roger Clemens trial. The judge has declared a re-trial and now Clemens will get his day in court...if he really wants it, that is to be seen. Linkage:

The Clemens trial still remains very interesting to me. Another case that just came to my attention and has really captured the attention in the Hampton Roads area is this:

This case is incredibly sad and involves a police recruit dying from head trauma. His widow has sued the police chief and academy instructors in a wrongful death action. It will be interesting to see if this case makes it to trial, though I can see a settlement in the works.

Will make more posts soon. All the best,
David
